Annette Laron-Pickett
Head Coach
Annette Laron-Pickett has been the Director of the Spirit Program at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo since 2007 and served as assistant coach from 2005-2007. She became Cal Poly’s Head STUNT Coach in 2010, then was named USA Cheer College STUNT Division I Coach of the Year in 2019 and College STUNT Coaches Association (CSCA) Club Coach of the Year in 2023. She lead the program to a National Championship in 2023 and team runner up in 2024. Coach Laron-Pickett is the former President of California STUNT Officials Association, along with serving on the CSCA Board as Secretary and on several STUNT committees. She is also a former Cal Poly Mustang cheerleader and majored in Electrical Engineering.

Brittney Thompson
Assistant Coach
Brittney Thompson was on the Cal Poly Cheer & STUNT team from 2017 to 2021. She became a national champion in the Universal Cheerleaders Association Game Day Division in 2018. She transitioned to become an assistant coach in 2022. Brittney also serves as Parliamentarian on the College STUNT Coach Association Board and assigned club and high school STUNT officials with the California STUNT Officials Association. She values determination and grit and hopes to instill that in all athletes that pass through the program.

Eligibility criteria and guidelines for tryouts include:
- Officially accepted incoming student, waitlisted, or transfer for the upcoming
academic year. - Current students maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 throughout the entire season
and in good academic and account standing with the University. - Individuals currently on academic probation or who have previously resigned from
the team are ineligible. - Returning athletes do not have guaranteed positions for the upcoming season,
necessitating the maintenance of skills throughout the year. Returning members
are required to try out annually.
2025-2026 Tryout Dates
- Saturday, May 10th from 6:00pm - 9:30pm (optional but highly recommended)
Sunday, May 11th from 8:00am - 1:00pm (REQUIRED)
For those with conflicts such as academic obligations or long-distance travel, video
submissions may be necessary. If you are unable to attend the in person tryout due to
certain circumstances, please contact Coach Laron-Pickett at alaronpi@calpoly.edu to
arrange an alternative tryout. Team members will be primarily selected from in person
tryouts, with additional spots potentially filled from video applicants.
Registration
Please have ready the following items prior to starting this application:
1. Digital copy of acceptance letter, wait listed letter, or current college schedule/ID
2. Completed Cal Poly waiver ready to be uploaded (can be downloaded from website)
3. Photo of yourself within the last 6 months (in uniform/jersey welcomed)
4. Insurance information
Evaluation will encompass the following:
Partner stunts
- Basics (required)
- Shoulder stand
- Prep twist cradle
- Single base
- Extended liberty
- Elite (optional but highly recommended)
- Extended one leg; multiple body positions
- Flipping/double twisting dismounts
Jumps (required)
- Toe touch
- Pike
- Jump combinations
Tumbling (not required but highly recommended)
- Running
- Standing
- Jump combinations and through to standing tumbling
University material (taught at tryouts)
- Fight Song and other traditions
